So you started a blog…and you want to make money but have no idea where to start. Don’t worry – I was where you are! I kept seeing all these bloggers making tons of money…I wanted that!
Well, I’m here to tell you that it’s hard work. And, sadly, you probably won’t be one of the ones who makes millions blogging. It could happen – but it’s unlikely.
That doesn’t mean you won’t make some money! This post is a VERY quick snapshot of how most bloggers make their money. I’m working on a more detailed post, but for now this information is valid and should help you out.
To help you REALLY get started in blogging, I’m going to give you 10 Pinterest pin templates. Pinterest is ESSENTIAL in blogging and you need pretty pins! I have a whole post all about this and you can read that here. (I highly recommend reading that post next because Pinterest is truly a game changer in the blogging world).
1. Ads – There are many ad programs out there, you just have to find which one you like the best. I use Google Adsense and notice a small amount of money trickle in. This is definitely not the big money maker. Here are some other ad programs you can join:
2. Affiliate Links – This one can be quite the money maker if you know what you’re doing, use the right affiliates, and advertise your blog properly. I’m still learning to navigate the world of affiliate links, so my take home isn’t huge right now. But, I’m working on it! As with ads, there are many, many different affiliates you can sign up with. The key is knowing how to use them and making sure people are reading your blog. There are TONS of affiliate programs out there, so it’s just about finding the right one. Here’s a small list of some:
Shop Style Collective
Share A Sale
3. Sell a product – This one can really bring home the bucks! Whether it’s a workshop, ebook, or something else – if you can get the right people to your blog, they will buy it. Examples of products you can sell are:
Downloadable printables (checklists, journals, etc)
4. Sponsored posts/products – I have yet to do this, but I know it’s not that easy to get started. You don’t necessarily need a huge following to get sponsored; you just have to know how to sell yourself. I’m working on a media kit as we speak, which is like a blogger’s resume. You send it out a bunch of brands you’re genuinely interested in working with, and see how it goes! I wouldn’t recommend having tons of sponsored posts because you start to come off kind of sleazy at that point. That’s why I say “genuinely interested in”.
I told you this would be quick! This is really the BASIC information you need to get the ball rolling on making money with blogging.
To date, I’ve made about $30 with blogging. I know, not much. But another thing to note: having a successful, money-making blog takes time. I was told by other bloggers it would probably be a year or more before I saw real money coming in. And that’s fine! I’m having fun learning and writing and hopefully teaching other new moms a thing or two about mom life!
